As most of us will know who use EMDR regularly, the impact of this therapy can feel sometimes little short of miraculous – you know that moment when the client says, “That’s weird”, and you know the EMDR is working?

Our next EMDR East Anglia Regional networking day will be a special opportunity to explore what Mark Brayne calls the transpersonal magic of EMDR, with practical skills and also personal presentations from two of Mark’s clients for whom EMDR has been life-changing.

Subjects explored in the first half of the day will include dreams, inter-generational transmission of trauma, the stages of alchemical change (cf CJ Jung), and the role of creative imagination and archetypes, with hints and tips around developing appropriate interweaves.

You’ll be introduced to the central place in relational EMDR of metaphor, imagination, narrative, dreams and meaning, and encouraged to see EMDR’s Standard Procedural Steps as an essential framework within and beyond which therapists can meet their clients’ developmental needs with intuition and compassion.

As is now tradition with our regional networking days, the morning will be given over to lecture and learning, with special topic discussions in small groups in the afternoon (picking up some of the themes requested at our last regional meeting in Norwich, with Dr Jamie Marich on April 22), and a concluding Q&A with a panel of EMDR Consultants.

For some background on Mark Brayne’s approach to integrating the transpersonal into EMDR therapy, there’s more in his January 2017 article for EMDR Now.
